C oach Vlad Matevski is the Real Basketball Training’s owner and an active professional skills development trainer.
Vlad is a former high-school, university and professional player who is dedicated to an ‘International Pro Style of Basketball Training’ for results-driven players of all levels. RBT’s workouts are intense, detailed, cutting-edge and designed to produce elite level basketball players.
Born in Macedonia (formerly Yugoslavia), Vlad went through one of the top European schools of basketball, known for its detailed emphasis on player development. He comes from a family with a wealth of basketball experience. His father was an elite player in his native country and also a professional coach for 30+ years. His brother also played professional basketball in his native country for more than 10 years. Following the footsteps of his basketball family, Coach Vlad developed an enormous passion for the game, and began his basketball journey, playing competitively at the age of 10. Since that time, basketball has been an integral part of his life, whether it is playing or coaching the game he loves.
Coach Vlad started playing basketball at the age of 10, for a City club team, BC Rabotnicki. At the age of 16 he started playing professionally with BC Vardar, in the Macedonian D1 Pro league that also competed in one of the FIBA’s prestigious competitions, Korac Cup. Vlad also played on the Macedonian Junior National Team that won the gold medal in the 1997 Balkan Olympics, as well as competing in numerous other National Team competitions. He was also on the list of players to potentially represent the Macedonian Senior National Team. Coach Vlad also played on the several pro teams in Macedonia before he moved to Canada.
From 2001-2005, Coach Vlad was a member of the Ryerson University Men’s Basketball Team, serving as a team captain for all 4 years that he played. During this time, he accumulated the following accolades: two-time MVP, Ryerson President’s award for Outstanding Academic/Athletic Achievement, Greatest Contribution to Ryerson Athletics award, and Canadian Inter-university Sports (CIS) Academic All Canadian award.
Upon graduation, he had few opportunities to continue his career of playing pro basketball in Europe. Instead, he chose to stay with his family, and continue his passion for the game by passing on his knowledge as a coach/trainer to some of Canada’s most talented basketball players. Vlad still keeps himself in shape and maintains his basketball skills by playing in seasonal men`s leagues around the city of Toronto.
Vlad excelled at the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), and achieved his Level 3 certification. He is a life-long learner who has attended many coaching clinics in Canada and Internationally (US, Spain, Serbia, Macedonia) in his pursuit of development as a basketball coach/trainer.
His vision, passion, knowledge and talent to present and follow up are incredible and hard to match in the world of youth basketball development.
Vlad has passed on his vast knowledge and skills regarding the game of basketball to athletes for over 10 years. His devotion to excellence, combined with his ability to bring out the best in every athlete, has helped many of them reach their full potential. Coach Vlad’s style of coaching and training has a proven history of success. His teams have enjoyed success, in terms of winning games and championships. His athletes have also received guidance and training, allowing them to reach their potential as students of the game as well as student of life. The success of his teams and athletes have helped Coach Vlad to become one of most- recognized development coaches in the country. He recently earned a contract with Canada Basketball as a skill development trainer for Elite Targeted Athletes.
Coach Vlad was head coach for the Toronto Five-O Club for six years. The team realized great success never having a losing season, winning a number of tournament championships, two Bronze medals at Provincial Championships. The greatest achievement Coach Vlad is proud OF from the Toronto Five-O Club is that each member of the team continued their basketball career at the University Varsity team level. As a result of development and training provided by Coach Vlad, five players received sports scholarships to compete in the United States in NCAA Division 1 and NAIA schools and the other 5 compete on CIS Teams here in Canada. Coach Vlad also coached Etobicoke 381 AAU team as well as worked with CIA Bounce, BJCC Magic, George Brown College and Ryerson University Men’s Basketball Teams.
Coach Vlad worked at, and conducted many camps and clinics, including the Five Star Basketball Camp, Vince Carter Basketball Camp, Real Basketball Camp and Youth Basketball Skills Development Clinics.
Coach Vlad began formally training basketball athletes on a professional basis in 2008. Since expanding his contribution to the world of basketball development beyond his club team, he’s had the opportunity to work with all levels of players. From the middle school athlete with dreams of being a basketball pro, to the NBA pro athlete, living his dreams, many have benefited from Coach Vlad`s tutorship and training methods.
